Choosing Citation Style

Citations are formatted based upon the citation style which is a set of established rules and conventions for document sources.  The citations style could be defined by an association such as the Modern Language Association (MLA), a publisher such as the University of Chicago Press (Chicago), or a journal such as the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA/AMA.)

The citation style you use will depend on the discipline in which you are writing or the instructor's requirements for the assignment. Choose a tab on the left for more information about specific styles.
