OVERVIEW

TexShare cards allow you to use the resources at other, participating Texas libraries.

How to get a TexShare Card:

Come to the main desk in the library with your TLU ID and we'll fill it out for you. TexShare cards are good for a year, but you can come back and get another when yours expires. If you want help finding the resource that you're looking for, we can also do that, and we can print out maps to any of the TexShare libraries that you plan to visit. We recommend calling the library you're going to visit to ensure they have the resources you need and that they're willing to lend them to TexShare users.

Wondering if you should put in an interlibrary loan request or come get a TexShare card?

Put in an ILL request if:

You can wait a few days for the item
You've searched worldcat.org and there are no libraries in the area with the item
You don't have the time/inclination to leave campus

Come get a TexShare card if:

You need the item right now/today
You've looked on worldcat.org and know what you need is avaiable
You're researching a very specific topic that another library has several resources on. (Example: if you were researching Irish Catholics for a paper, you might want to get a TexShare card and go to the library at Trinity University. They have 56 items on the topic, we have 9.)

TexShare cardholders may not borrow reference materials or local history/genealogy materials nor may they request interlibrary loans. Borrowing privileges are blocked when a cardholder has overdue materials, accrues over $5.00 in fines and/or is billed (in any amount) for lost or damaged materials. All other circulation policies are identical to policies for local cardholders.

Limitations: Four-item limit; no media, software, periodicals, reserves, laptops, etc. circulate to TexShare borrowers; accounts are blocked if more than $1.00 in fines or fees is owed.

Eligibility: In-person application at the circulation desk, with signature required on all registration forms. For first-time TexShare registration, presentation of valid Texas-state issued photo ID or Trinity University ID is required. For check-out of materials by visiting patrons, presentation of a valid TexShare participation card and a zero fine/fee balance at any TexShare participating institution are required.

Limitations: University of Texas Libraries checkout privileges are granted to TexShare card holders 18 and older. Privileges do not include access to Inter-Library Service or to electronic resources restricted by licensing agreements. The Perry Castaneda Library is restricted to UT Austin students, faculty and staff between the hours of 10pm and 7am.

Limitations: The following collections must be used in the Library: Juvenile literature, Textbooks and Curriculum Materials, Audio/Visual Materials, and Course Reserve Items not normally circulated from the Library. The following services are NOT available to TexShare borrowers: Interlibrary Borrowing Services, Electronic access to databases limited to UTSA patrons, Electronic Classroom and Seminar Room use, Locker and Study room reservations, Materials Courier Service between DT and 1604. Other limitations: Patrons under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Library policies are under constant scrutiny and may be changed without notice. Number of items that can be checked out: Faculty 50, Staff 4, Graduate students 4, Undergraduate students 4, Public 4. Length of checkout: Faculty semester, Staff 2 weeks, Graduate students 2 weeks, Undergraduate students 2 weeks, Public 2 weeks. No renewals. Further service will be denied to anyone with fines or a blocked record.

Limitations: Maximum of four non-renewable books for a two-week period. Do not lend audiovisuals or Special Collection items, serials, theses or dissertations.
Eligibility: In addition to the TexShare ID card, a picture ID (school ID or driver's license) is required. TexShare card is valid for the semester it was issued.
